It is with much sadness that we annouce the death on 12th October 2014 of our longest serving member, Stan Phillips.
Stan was born on 23rd July 1938. He started karate in 1975 and joined our club in 1976 when he moved to Worsley.
He was a quiet, unassuming man with a huge knowledge and experience of karate, who commanded great respect from all that knew and trained with him.
He always wanted to succeed in whatever he did. This was typified by him volunteering, and passing the rigorous training, for the Parachute Regiment during his National Service from 1959 to 1962.
When he was diagnosed with cancer he refused to let it change his attitude to life and continued training even whilst undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
He was married to Margaret; has two sons, Matthew and Nathan; and two grandchildren, Holli and Abi.
